I am hardly the only one thoroughly (and still thoroughly) enjoying Borderlands 2. It seems five million people have graciously brought our Vault Hunter friends into their homes, trying to rid the world of Handsome Jack and Hyperion forever. An army of that size is certainly enough to do the job.
I can state with conviction I don’t regret praising Borderlands 2. Gearbox’s recent outing evolves in many ways and so effortlessly denotes the first game into obscurity to become the one and true Borderlands. The studio has silenced critics and resolved the experimental side of a new IP, showcasing in broad view that wacky [...]
Before I go into anything, note there’s spoilers in this post. If you haven’t finished Borderlands 2, go play and come back.
Inasmuch as anything, saying Borderlands 2 has the framework of a functioning story is utterly strange. The first game was notable for its subtle narrative–strictly as a mechanism to keep the chaos going–so to declare Gearbox [...]
Awesome! The first actual review for Holygrenade! And what better game to give the royal treatment than Borderlands 2? A decisive sequel for an experimental IP, and the first major title leading to Christmas. Important stuff if you follow the industry intently. Anyway, here is my review of Gearbox’s Borderlands 2.
Before Borderlands, rarely had a game idolized [...]
The Wall Street Journal is a credible source of information, or so I like to think, and today, through typical Internet rage, I discovered their “Speakeasy” section, covering “media, entertainment, celebrity and the arts.” It’s good the WSJ has this section, specifically when covering video games, because it shows a noticeable lack in knowledge from their writers and [...]
I originally meant to post every single day as part of the 3o-day blogging challenge, with the option to expand it further, but for whatever reason I decided not to. But today, September 14, is the day the however-many-days blogging challenge starts on Holygrenade!
This series will center around video gaming as mostly every [...]
After three incredibly long years, Gearbox’s lovingly strange co-op gun-pocalypse is back, with enthusiasm and interest peaking to absurd levels. Just this morning, 2K declared Borderlands 2 is their most pre-ordered title in the UK, with Take-Two’s British sales director telling MCV, “We’re exceptionally happy with the level of support gamers have shown Borderlands 2, and [...]
Man, I’m tired. I awoke this morning to another article decrying Gearbox for statements made over its self-proclaimed “girlfriend mode”, a skilltree for DLC character Mechromancer which is actually named “Best Friends Forever”. And before that, Crystal Dynamics dared challenge the notion that video games cannot handle rape correctly, saying Lara Croft was “empowered” by the crippling [...]
For Borderlands, it wasn’t about story or character progression or even the wonderfully weird cast of characters. Those were secondary in a world that adores, indulges in, and is ravaged by guns. Pandora isn’t a lush, scenic paradise; instead it’s a brown and desolate landscape where survival is truly of the fittest. But what better way [...]
